Aiming your sword
The Holy Spirit spoke to me concerning the Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God – see Eph 6:17). He asked me, “What are you supposed to do with a sword?” Then He said, “You need to first AIM it where you want it to go!” This is a powerful key in dealing with spiritual warfare!
For example, when you are battling a stronghold of low self esteem, you need to locate and meditate on very specific verses which address low self esteem. You need to learn of who you are in Christ! While reading your Bible is always important, if you are trying to tear down a stronghold of fear by meditating on how God allowed the Israelites to led off into slavery… you’re not going to get anywhere. But if you meditate on the verses which tell of how patient, forgiving and merciful God has been to them before finally giving them over to their enemies… you’ll see a new side to the story and it will begin to change how you see God. Your picture of God will go from a cruel distant taskmaster to a loving heavenly Father, and your unhealthy fear of Him will begin to evaporate.
When dealing in spiritual warfare and tearing down strongholds, I have found it essential to get specific in God’s Word concerning your situation. We need to learn how to AIM our swords exactly where we want it to penetrate… and when we do, we will see RESULTS!
Now don’t get me wrong, it is very important to have a balanced diet in the Word of God. The more you feast on the Word, the more it will feed your spirit man, and this is essential to our walk with God. Jesus told us clearly that man cannot live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God:
Matthew 4:4, “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
