Do generational curses exist today?
There are a couple verses that are used when people attempt to disprove generational curses; one is in Ezekiel and the other in Jeremiah. Both of these verses, however, do not apply to non-believers but to the ‘house of Israel’, which is referring to believers. Non-believers are still affected by generational curses.
A curse is sort of like a permission slip. When we accept Jesus, I believe that generational sin curses are broken, thus the permission slip is made void. However, if a demonic spirit has taken advantage and ‘moved in’ because of a permission slip, simply removing/destroying that permission slip is not enough to drive those demons back out.
Once demons have attached themselves to a person, it often takes a casting out process to expel them. Demons don’t always leave when their legal grounds are removed. That is why we cast out demons. We can’t expect them to leave on their own once their ‘permission slip’ is destroyed.
If demons left the moment their legal grounds were broken up, there would be no need to cast them out. Jesus would have said to all those possessed with devils, “Thy sins be forgiven thee” instead of “Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit!”
