Self-rejection hinders God's love
It is my firm conviction that there is simply not enough taught in the church today about the importance of loving yourself as God’s son or daughter. Self rejection, low self worth, self hate, and all the other anti-self bondages are a major problem in countless Christians, at least in America. Many times we are in denial of how badly we think of ourselves. We need to understand some of the serious effects that these bondages create for us. Let’s take a look at just one example of this today.
How you see yourself can limit your ability to see how much God loves you. When others reject you, it hurts to some degree or another, but if you reject yourself, you will believe you are unworthy for God to love you, and that belief will create a filter which will reject anything that says “God loves you.” This is one of the common reasons why some people have such a hard time believing that God truly loves them. They can even memorize the scriptures, but their heart has a hard time accepting it. This is just one of many reasons why we need to overcome the issues in our heart that we have against ourselves. We need to begin to see who God made us to be, and in a humble and thankful way, love ourselves. Then we will begin to see ourselves as lovable and it will be a whole lot easier to believe the love that God has for us.
If this has your attention, there’s a whole teaching on loving yourself, which I recommend reading.
