Why some are freed instantly, but others are not
Somebody recently asked a very good question in our forum, and I thought it would make a good brief for this month. Here is their question:
Why is it that some are delivered and set free instantly never to have another problem with their addiction or whatever and then it takes years for some to be set free? I don’t understand at all.
Sister, this is a golden question! You get 5 stars! I’m glad you asked, because this is so important for everybody to understand.
There are many factors involved, and it can vary from person to person, from bondage to bondage. But in a nutshell, the root of a person’s bondage needs to be addressed. Many times, that root is not addressed, and therefore obtaining deliverance is very difficult if not impossible. Not every deliverance minister understands the roots of bondage and how these things work, so they struggle with people who have roots that they have no idea how to pull up. Other ministers who understand how these things work, can be much more effective at getting a person set free much faster, and help them retain their freedom.
In cases of addiction, for example, I have to ask the question, “Is the root being dealt with?” Somebody who has an addiction spirit doesn’t just have an addition spirit. There’s usually a really good reason why that spirit is there. Perhaps the person had a hard childhood where they were abused, and suffer from emotional wounds that were never healed. If you simply cast out the demon(s), but never address the reason why that demon is there, it’s likely going to come back. In cases of addiction, there’s usually a reason for escapism. Escapism is where a person is trying to suppress something, usually an unhealed wound, fear, or emotional pain of some kind. Their trying to drown out a problem, bondage or wound. It is very important in such cases, to figure out what it is that they are suppressing, and deal with that first, then cast the demons out. This way, there’s nothing left for the demon to return to. The end result is a person who is free not only from the addiction, but also the bondage that caused the addiction, and most importantly, there is no concern about the demons returning!
That’s why the understanding of bondage is so important in this type of ministry. I have a good teaching that I recently published on demonic homes, and it will explain much more about how bondage often works. I highly recommend reading it! Here’s the link:

And then there are times when a person is filled with the Word of God, where they have regular fellowship with God, and their wound is already healed, but their addiction spirit is still hanging on (simply because nobody has cast it out yet). In such a case, you might walk right in, cast out the demon, and the person is freed. We love it when deliverances are that simple, but that’s typically not the case. There are usually things to work through in order to be truly set free.
People who spend regular fellowship with God, and time in His Word, are usually a lot easier to get free than those who are ‘lazy Christians’ and rarely ever spend time in the Word, but rely on everybody else to solve their problems. Being rooted and grounded in the Word of God makes deliverance a LOT easier to obtain and helps the person to maintain their freedom afterwards. That is why deliverance shouldn’t be looked at as if it were a spiritual pill that magically solves all their problems… but rather a part of a person’s overall toolkit to be set free and become all that Jesus destined them to be.
Blessings in Christ,
